Join us ONLINE for a panel discussion hosted by Dr Janice McRandal and The Cooperative as we explore this year’s NAIDOC week theme of “Always Was, Always Will Be”.
Our guest panellists include:
Yarraka descends from the Wonnarua and Bundjalung nations of NSW on her mother’s side and the Birri Gubba and Gungalu nations of QLD on her father’s side. She was born on Gadigal country in Sydney and grew up in Redfern in the 80’s, then moved to Brisbane in the early 90’s where she now resides with her 3 children and granddaughter who were all born on Yuggera country in South Brisbane.
Yarraka has over 20 years’ experience working in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations throughout NSW and QLD and has won awards for her art and media achievements.
As a passionate advocate for social justice and self-determination, Yarraka has facilitated several workshops and presented at numerous conferences and events across the country, dedicating her life’s work to improving the quality of life of First Nations people by sharing cultural knowledge and her lived experience to help raise more awareness about Indigenous issues on a global scale.
Justine Dillon is a Kombumerri/Nunukul Nghui Woman.
Justine has been on the board for Ngarang-Wal Gold Coast Aboriginal Association for over 10 years with one of her main projects working on Guanaba Indigenous Protected Area which maintains and cares for 100 hectares of dense rainforest on Kombumerri land which is home to some endangered species. Justine is a teacher and also a big advocate for women working on Country.
Uncle Alex Davidson
Uncle Alex Davidson descends from the Gubbi Gubbi, Durumbul and Kaluli tribes of Queensland. He is the chair of the local Kurbingui Elders in Zillmere.
Proud Butchulla and Garawa woman, Sono has over 15 years’ experience in the community services sector and is Founder and CEO of Strong Women Talking.
